Reflexology
Reflexology is a complementary therapy and works on the principle that there are reflex points on the feet which directly correspond to different parts of the body. By stimulating specific reflex points it is therefore possible to directly stimulate specific parts of the body. Reflexology is a fantastic therapy that treats the person as a whole- mind, body and spirit. It is amazingly relaxing and helps the body fight off the adverse effects of stress, as well as raising your natural endorphin levels to give you that all important feel good factor.
As we all know, high stress levels alone can have a devastating effect on fertility and an effective relaxation technique can be very beneficial. However, it is more than just an effective method of relaxation. Reflexology can also have great clinical benefits. It works to open up the body, boosting circulation and bringing in necessary nutrients. This also helps to de-toxify the body through more effective elimination. All this works to bring the body back to a state of harmony and balance. It is this balancing effect that makes reflexology so effective in the treatment of many hormonal conditions. Reflexology can be particularly effective in simply kick-starting ovulation again in women, who may have encountered problems after using the combined contraceptive pill for a long time. It can also help to regulate an erratic menstrual cycle thereby boosting the chance of falling pregnant. I have also found reflexology to be particularly effective in controlling conditions such as endometriosis and poly- cystic ovarian syndrome.
In August last year, I started an organization called Well Women. Well Women is a network of clinical reflexologists specializing in women’s health and at present we cover the west coast of Scotland. The aim of this organization is to promote the use of reflexology for the treatment of many women’s health issues such as infertility, chronic premenstrual tension, endometriosis, pregnancy and the menopause. All our reflexologists are trained professionally to a high standard and are also members of a regulatory body such as the Scottish Institute of Reflexology.
 When choosing any therapist, it is important to check that he/she is a member of an appropriate organization in order to guarantee that they are suitably qualified. A professional reflexologist will never claim to make anyone pregnant. However, experience has shown us that regular effective treatments can have an amazing effect on fertility.
